Gamma-spectrum of a radioactive Am-Be-source. The photopeak after the Compton edge corresponds to detection of the incident gamma rays. The significantly lower count in the region between the Compton edge and the photopeak reflects the fact that no gamma rays of this energy can be absorbed by the detector.

Two beta-ray spectrographs were used: a thin magnetic lens spectrograph and a small 180' spectrograph. The spectrographs had been previously calibrated by measure-ments of the spectra of ThB, P", and Cu". (In the case of the small 180' spectrograph the 2000-10-17 · The method relies on the analysis of the entire spectrum of in-situ gamma-rays from a single spectrum, including the broad peak of scattered photons at the energy between 20 and 80 keV. It is based on a simple notion that the deeper the source is buried beneath the surface, the more numerous the photons scattered in the soil, compared to the corresponding peak of gamma-rays of the original energy. Re: CS-137 Spectrum, new shield Post by Sesselmann » Wed Dec 13, 2017 12:26 am Something isn't right, because if you just record background radiation with a 2" detector in a non contaminated area you should see K40 as an obvious bump at around 1460 keV. 2020-10-24 · English: A gamma-ray energy spectrum obtained from Cs-137 using a scintillation spectrometer. Based on a public domain image by Kieran Maher (see original image) Caesium-137 (Cs-137) emits gamma rays of about 662 keV.

The beta-ray spectrum is shown in Fig. 1. The shape suggests a beta-spectrum of a simple type on which is superposed at the high energy end a strong internal con-version line. A Kurie plot is reproduced in Fig. 2. It indi-cates a maximum energy of 0.550+0.005 Mev for the beta-ray spectrum. The linearity of the Kurie plot, above

2012-09-11 Caesium 137. A legacy of atmospheric nuclear bomb tests and accidents. Caesium 137 is a radioactive element with a relatively long half-lifeof 30.15 years. This particular isotope of caesium is both a beta and gamma emitter. It is produced in some abundance by fission reactions. Looking at the decay scheme and comparing it to a c137 spectrograph I cant see how the x-ray photons are being generated.

Cs 137 Gamma Spectrum This spectrum was taken from a 1 µC 137Cs check source, using a GS-1100-PRO with a new 2 x 2" Gammaspectacular detector and PRA software. The 32 KeV x-ray peak and the 662 keV gamma peak are very obvious, and as there is a good spread between the peaks, this source makes for a good calibration source.

Anyhow our experience has shown that, if a small window is used, Cs-137 to Ba-137m; the narrow peak is from the electrons internally converted from the gamma ray photons emitted in the decay from Ba-137m to Ba-137. In this figure, we have neglected the 8 % of the electrons emitted in the direct beta decay from Cs-137 to Ba-137.
